Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has an unusual but adorable tradition of electing canines’ candidates as their Mayor. This year Wilbur, the French Bulldog, is the latest moral face of it.
Kentucky, Rabbit Hash, has a new mayor, a six-month-old French bulldog named Wilbur. He will be succeeding Mayor Brynneth Pawltro, an American Pitbull terrier. The small town has never had an actual human as a mayor. This tradition emerged in the late 1990s by a man named Don Claire. He thought it was a great idea to elect an animal as the mayor of the town as a fund-raising event.
The Rabbit Hash Historical Society is a non-profit society and the money raised from the elections is used for the upkeep and also for the insurance of buildings. In the elections, one dollar is equal to one vote, and people can vote as much as they want. Moreover, these elections are not restricted to Kentucky; anyone from around the world can vote.
In an interview with The Koala, Rabbit Hash Historical Society said, “In this election, the highest amount was raised, which was $13,142 votes towards a total of $22,985.”
Furthermore, the new Mayor of the town was very pleased with the result and posted on his Facebook page as well. He wrote, “Mayor Wilbur here! I got to meet so many lovely people in the last 24 hours..and I can’t wait to meet so many more. I am humbled and beyond thankful for all of the support from far away and right here at home.”
Along with Wilbur, canines Jack Rabbit and Lady have also become the ambassadors. The RHH Society further added, “The mayor does not have any official duties but to shake hands and kiss babies. He attends the interview, parades, and also fundraisers as often as they can.”
Rabbit Hash is a very popular tourist town. People from all over the world come to visit the adorable Mayor. Congratulations to Mayor Wilbur on his win!
