An owl flew inside a helicopter while it was flight fighting the Californian creek fire in October. It had been all-hands-on-deck when this owl landed inside to help the pilot!
Sky Aviation‘s pilot Dan Alpiner was flying his helicopter to extinguish the Californian fire from above the ground. Suddenly, he noticed that he was not alone inside the vehicle. An owl had joined him! At one-point Dan got really scared as the owl could have harmed him but the animal was rather calm. He seemed to be enjoying the flight.
In a press release, Dan said that he “saw this flutter out of the corner of my eye. I was spooked by it but then we had eye contact.”
He also added that he got so scared that he said to the owl “please don’t attack me”. But after a while he got accustomed to the owl and brought him along to the rescue mission.
Sky Aviation also posted about the incident on its Facebook page and called the event a “miracle”. They wrote, “It’s odd to have an owl enter an aircraft. It’s unheard of to have it enter while the helo is in-flight. It’s an unexplainable and magical miracle for it to stay with you for several water drops, then leave just as it arrived – safe and unannounced.”
According to Alpiner, the bird stayed with him for 10 minutes. The owl was super chill and very friendly, and he was shocked at how comfortable the bird was feeling. It seemed like the bird wanted to be part of this good deed.
The Creek Fire has destroyed a lot of land in California and firefighters are working daily to put them out! Thank you to the adorable owl for helping Dan in extinguishing the fire!
